Brunch: Permission to Linger Longer

Many argue that brunch is the BEST meal of the day. A combination of breakfast and lunch food coupled with the absolute permission to just take your time and linger a little longer. These Kansas City restaurants offer some of the best brunch around from pancakes and frittatas to Bloody Marys and Mimosas.

The Mixx
11942 Roe Ave., Overland Park, KS
When you enter The Mixx, you are immediately drawn to the colorful juice and coffee bar and your taste buds start dancing as you review the breakfast menu. Although not a huge selection, the options are made from the freshest ingredients and you can’t go wrong with any of the sandwiches or sweet potato hash. The brightness of the spacious cafe’ and patio will kick your day off on the highest note.

Le Peep
7218 College Blvd., Overland Park, KS
Conveniently located near the Overland Park Convention Center and several of Overland Park’s hotels, Le Peep is a local favorite for a traditional brunch. Expect deliciously fluffy pancakes (the blueberry granola is fantastic), hearty omelets, and a friendly staff that has been around forever. This is a great spot for families and those seeking an affordable, yet tasty and casual brunch experience.

Urban Table
8232 Mission Rd., Prairie Village, KS
Is it the food, the décor or the general atmosphere? All three are so fantastic at Urban Table that they all become fast favorites. Start with a grapefruit mimosa and then go for a cinnamon roll and spicy corned beef hash or waffle sliders. If the weather is right, the patio is a great spot for people watching but the inside is incredibly cozy and vintage cool, too.

La Bodega
4311 W 119th St., Leawood, KS
If you’re up for a fun and festive brunch, head to La Bodega. The upbeat Spanish music will leave you feeling energized and the flavorful food satiated. Go for the Cinnamon Brioche Basque Toast, topped with espresso butter, Kahlua syrup and saffron cream or just order a bunch of traditional tapas perfect for sharing.

Paradise Diner
5501 W 135th St., Overland Park, KS
Nutella French toast and Crab Florentine Omelet? Yes, please! Paradise Diner is a step above a traditional diner with modern décor and more upscale ingredients. The house-made bloody mary is excellent as are the peach mimosas. Snag a spot on their patio when the sun is shining for added fun.

Pinstripes Bistro | Bowling | Bocce
13500 Nall Ave., Overland Park, KS
Pinstripes’ Sunday brunch buffet is one of the best in town. A favorite for large groups and special occasions, every featured item is delicious. Salads, omelets, fresh waffles, flatbreads, a chocolate dipping station featuring homemade marshmallows… YUM! Stay for some bowling and bocce after and make it a Sunday Funday!

Succotash Restaurant
2601 Holmes St., Kansas City, MO
Frequently ranked as one of the best and most creative restaurants in the city, Succotash is worth the often long wait on weekends. The kitschy décor stimulates conversation and the eggs benedict, Swedish pancakes and fresh squeezed juices take this brunch hot spot to the top of your list.

Eggtc.
5107 Main St., Kansas City, MO
7182 Renner Rd., Shawnee, KS
Thankfully there are two locations in Kansas City to enjoy some of the best pancakes, crepes and frittatas in town. Start with a great cup of coffee while you peruse the extensive menu. This is a place where you really can’t go wrong with any of the menu items but favorites include the sweet potato pancakes, apple and goat cheese omelet and the traditional biscuits and chorizo gravy.

Heirloom Bakery & Hearth
401 E 63rd St., Kansas City, MO
Heirloom Bakery is truly a little slice of heaven. Think the vintage atmosphere of the West Village in New York City mixed with the unpretentious creative cool of Kansas City. From the homemade pop tarts to the rotating selection of breads and pastries, Heirloom is THE place to linger on a weekend morning. Although not offering the traditional brunch menu, sometimes all you need is time to drink an amazing cup of coffee alongside a homemade pastry, surrounded by the buzz of a bakery floor.
