American Girl and KC BalletMy daughter loves American Girl! We have visited the store many times. We have bought their dolls and accessories. But, until recently, we had never participated in a special event at the store. This year, American Girl Kansas City created a special event, in honor of Isabelle, the 2014 Doll of the Year, which was irresistible. Last weekend, my daughter and I had the privilege of spending a pampered day, with American Girl and the Kansas City Ballet, at the performance of Alice in Wonderland.

American Girl BoutiqueOur day began at the American Girl Store at 10:30 am, before the store opens for the public for the day, with a special activity and private shopping time. The dolls got their hair done and we created a “Mad Hatter” craft for our doll. After all the dolls had a “new do” we boarded a charter bus and were taken to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts – a beautiful place that is a must see. On the ride there we got to make yet another craft!

Alice and Wonderland Tea PartyUpon arrival at the performing arts center, we were taken to a private room to enjoy a Mad-Hatters Tea Party with lemonade, fruit, cheeses, crackers and the most amazing Alice in Wonderland cookies! We got to meet a few of the performers, ask some questions and take photos. Then, a speaker came in and told the girls the story of Alice. After learning about the story, we attended a 30 minute footnotes discussion where we got “insider” info about the ballet.

Backstage with KC Ballet and American GirlJust before 2:00 pm, it was time to find our seats and the ballet to begin. The girls were spell bound with the dancers and incredible stage props. All I can say is it was amazing! After the crowd cleared we were treated to a VIP Backstage tour. We were able to meet Alice and a few other cast members, get autographs and take pictures. The girls really were mesmerized.

Sad that the day was drawing to a close, we boarded the bus back to the American Girl Store. We arrived back about 5:30pm.

American Girl Doll Mad Hatter CraftIt was an eventful and memory-making day with my daughter! One that I would definitely do again! This event really answered American Girl Doll’s question, “Where will your inner star take you?” You should check out their next outings and don’t forget to book your American Girl Hotel Package with the Doubletree!
